If you are a notary for your employer, your employer could also be held liable for your mistakes. All too often people take the office of Notary Public lightly, which is a huge mistake. Even though your state does not require education, it could keep you out of trouble. The Utah Online Notary Course is the fastest and easiest way for you to learn what to do and what not to do and how to protect yourself as a notary. - Complete the Online Utah Notary Training Course
- Contact PSI at (800) 620-5802 to begin the commission process and receive instructions. You will be asked for an email address to deliver online testing information.
- To obtain a Study Guide, log onto PSI's website at www.psiexams.com. Select " Test Centers," then " Utah," then "Notary Public," and click on the "Study Guide" link. This will launch the Study Guide into a PDF document and you may print it.
- Candidates are encouraged to carefully prepare BEFORE ordering the test. Notary Workshops are available state-wide. See our website for dates and locations. The examination is administered on the Internet. If you do not have access to the Internet, try your local library or business center. The examination fee is $30. You will have 50 minutes to take this examination. The examination will terminate promptly after 50 minutes. The examination is closed book.
- After you have finished your online exam, a score report will be mailed to you the following business day. You should receive your score report within 7 days.
- After receiving notification that you have passed the test, obtain a $5,000 notary public surety bond and complete the notary public application. Mail the completed bond, application, score report a photo copy of your birth certificate or a photo copy of a current, valid U.S. Passport, or a photo copy of your green card (The expiration date on the green card must exceed the 4 year expiration date of the notary commission in order to qualify), or a photo copy of your certificate of naturalization and a $30.00 non-refundable processing fee payable to the State of Utah to:

- The Notary Office will return to you a “Certificate of Authority of Notary Public.” Please take a copy of the ‘certificate' to any local rubber stamp manufacturing company as proof of commission and they will take your order for your official notary seal, which now must be in purple ink.
- Test scores must come from PSI.
